“As every schoolchild learns in civics class, the national government is one of limited powers, and any legislation that would exceed those powers is unconstitutional.” – Andrew Grossman, Center for Legal and Judicial Studies

Dear Candidate ______________:

As you know, the American people are fed up with business as usual in Washington.

I would guess that is one of the primary reasons you are running for office – because you want to do it differently. You want to restore some sanity to Washington, and I applaud your efforts.

The common denominator among the various Conservative and Independent groups is the desire to return our Federal Government to its Constitutionally constrained limits.

The Federal Government, especially the Legislative branch, has operated ultra vires, or outside the bounds of the Constitution, for far too long. The fact of the matter is that the Federal Government is only allowed to do those things that are enumerated in the Constitution. If there is not an enumerated power, that issue is left to the States and the citizens themselves.

The Tenth Amendment is very clear about that point. “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the People.”

It is also true that without funding, nothing the Federal Government does has any power.

There is a strategic solution: The Politician’s Defund Pledge.

There is no better way to take a shot across the bow of entrenched Washington politicians and to establish your Conservative bona fides than to sign this pledge, which reads:

“I solemnly pledge to my constituents that I will consistently vote to defund, or vote against appropriating any money for, any federal department, program or activity not specifically authorized by an enumerated power in the United States Constitution.  For any federal department, program, or activity I do vote to fund, I will provide the specific enumerated power constitutionally permitting it.”

I have personally signed my own pledge promising not to vote for any candidate who has not signed the Politician’s Defund Pledge.

Your intentions will be crystal clear by signing the Defund Pledge. By doing so, you immediately propel yourself into the ranks of those who will support and defend the Constitution. You tell all your constituents that you will obey it, as well.

It’s time to return the power of the Federal Government to its Constitutionally constrained limits.

It’s time to sign the Defund Pledge.

Kind regards,
